Adopted at County Convention, April 18, 2026, Pinedale, Wyoming

Preamble:

The Constitution of the US and the Constitution of the State of Wyoming are the foundational guiding documents for all persons in Wyoming. The government derives its power from the people; it is the responsibility of the people to ensure the government remains just.

The Sublette County Democratic Party (SCDP) adopts the ideals set forth in the Wyoming Democratic Party platform.

Furthermore, the Sublette County Democratic Party supports and defends these values:

1)   Public Lands: We support sustaining our legacy of access to public lands. We recognize that responsible stewardship of natural resources, which includes diverse interests, will ensure that future generations  inherit clean air, clean water, and healthy wildlife habitats. We strongly oppose any wholesale efforts to transfer or sell off national public lands — in Wyoming and elsewhere — to state or private entities, and support the equal footing of conservation values in the multiple-use considerations of land management decisions.

2)   Public Education: We support robust and equitable funding for public schools. We  oppose the diversion of public funds to support private, charter, parochial, and home schools, per the Wyoming Constitution.

3)   Health Care Decisions Are a Right: We endorse the Wyoming Constitution’s assertion that, “Each competent adult shall have the right to make his or her own health care decisions,” and that “the State of Wyoming shall act to preserve these rights from undue governmental infringement.”

4)    Civic Engagement

  1. We support and protect the democratic process of free, fair, and transparent elections at the local and state level.
  2. We believe the best government is that which is closest to the people and comes from an engaged citizenry exercising their right and responsibility by voting and participation in every level of government.
  3. Broaden participation in political processes by increasing Democratic presence on local boards and in elected positions.

5)  Due Process is the foundation of a free republic and enshrined in the Wyoming constitution: “No person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property without due process of law” (article 1 section 6). The SCDP also supports the doctrine  of substantive due process, defined as fundamental fairness for all human beings.

6) Other Identified Priorities

a) Broadened participation in formal political process, specifically Young Adults

b) Support local initiatives toward affordable housing

c) Protection of County Reserve Funds

d) Support local journalism and freedom of the press

e) Civic duty & responsibility
